More meme-ing
Feb. 22nd, 2009 08:20 pmAsk me to associate you with five things. When I do this, post this meme and an explanation of your interest in those five things in your journal.
wishtheworst wanted to know about:
1. Undertaker/Matt Hardy
Nothing nice about this at all. I perv hardcore on power imbalances. Gimme fictionalized sexual harassment, humiliation scenarios, bullying, and abuse of power by a villian. Gimme swallowing of pride, handling defeat with grace, holding high a chin, and doing right thing even though it's awful by a hero. Because I'm easily squicked by gore, I'd rather read mental or sexual torment than physical torture.
As for the whys of these two in particular, Matt's the easy one to answer. Somewhere in my docs. file I have a wanky tl;dr metafest about fanfic writers casting their favorites as bottom/bottoms are the new MarySue. I do this too!
I adore two kinds of sexual villians. One is persnickety fancy lad, e.g. William Regal. The other is the mean, low-down bastard. Taker nails that (With bonus mad undead skillz). What Taker also nails is how he compares to Matt--- I like the bully older, taller, and more politically connected/power than his victim. Plus, he's grody. Everyone once in a while, after one of my whiny pleas for Taker/Matt, someone will tell me how they sekritly find Taker attractive, and I'm like nononononononono. The point's supposed to be that he's not attractive. There's no lurid thrill in a handsome tormentor.
2. Young adult lit.
In my white trash childhood, I spent my time doing three things: putting pennies on the railroad track by our house, "driving to California" in any of the junked cars rusting away behind our sheds, and reading. Our library sucked so there wasn't a lot of variety (though that did lead to books about ancient Rome). So even though I read lots, I missed a lot of the classics. I'm still trying to catch-up.
Also, it's interesting to re-read books I loved to see how 20 years of life and experience have changed the story for me.
3. Minnesota
It's not Wisconsin! I know we're hokey and bland compared to everywhere else, and it's criminally cold. But I love this place. I love the lakes and parks and having two downtowns. Saint Paul is beautiful, and snottily, it's clean. I'm shocked by how dirty other cities are. Kansas City, you especially.
4. Paper and dice roleplaying
My first foray into role-playing was unsuccesful by nerd standards. The GM was going on and on about how evil and powerful and unstoppable this bad guy, Dukas, was, and all the other players were like "Can he detect magic?", "What kind of armour is he wearing?" "Is he using standard Imperial technology?" and I asked, "Is he single?"
Another GM once told me, I take the story to expected places, which I'm sure meant "you miss the plot by a country mile", but I seriously love getting my nerd on. It's fun trying to solve the mysteries. It's fun trying to outthink a friend-- you know him/her; you should know their storytelling tics. I love putting on the persona of my characters.
My favorite characters were: Amelia Dale, FBI agent and asker of Dukas' status; Jens Gruber, meglomaniac; Polly the batshit insane fairy princess; Max Shimkat (BEST NAME EVAR) a mutant who could instantly diagnose problems with and repair mechinary and because he couldn't do the same with people thought they were broken beyond repair; Shan, male whore.
Sadly most of my gaming has gone the way of the dodo as my gaming buddies have been procreating like rabbits, and I've never had many opportunities to do much fandom rpg-ing.
5. Batista/Twig
No other wrestler seems as anti-Twig as Batista. Clearly pestering and teasing had to occur. And whenever I run out of good ribs, Batista opens his smarmy hole and goes off about "car crash matches" or "AJ Styles pees sitting down like a women." or "You only need talent if you're a nobody."
