Superbad. Mor lyk
Okay, my main reason for seeing this was George Michael Bluth Michael Cera. The kid has awkward, stilted, nerd-by DOWN. Cera was blissfully awesome in Superbad, and the rest of movie brought humor by the truckloads.
Not just LOL funny, no, Superbad laugh and CLAP at the damn screen funny. And the funny came from the characters being their dorky selves, rather than now-it's-time-for-nerd/popular/asian/fat girl-joke. And characters got called on, and had consquences for being assholes-- you know how like characters sometimes say incredibly cruel things to another, when that happened here, others were like "I don't have to put up with your shit."
The subplot with Fogel and the policemen was funnier than the main plot. Both were funny, but McLovin had stomach-hurty laughs all over the place.
And as nasty and low-brown and too-much-swearingy as the rest of the movie was, the ending was awwwww. When Seth glances back up the escalator at Evan, you know something awesome is quietly slipping away.
The only thing I didn't like is the same complaint I have with Nerds Finally Getting The Hot Chicks movie. WHY AREN'T NERD GIRLS GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM? I hate that. Like, those 4 years of high school when they spent mooning over McHottie Van Allthat, there was probably a Mousie McLikesTheSameComicsYouDo quietly waiting, waiting, waiting for him to wise the fuck up and date her. It's like only boys can enjoy nerdy activities, girls should just be hot and have no interests (besides love for the POV character) of their own. Boo on that.
Anyways. Total thumbs up. Go late though, so you miss the trailer for "What's Up, Chuck". Unless you want to see Jessica Alba play a total MarySue who gets to trip and fall a lot. I hope she doesn't break Raven's nose!
