Aug. 23rd, 2009 12:14 pmI had a difficult and esteem-bruising editing session last night. It started out okay, switching out verbs and moving around clauses for better flow. Then I got to the final third, and geez, piles and piles of crappy text. Was someone paying me a nickel for every use of "ignore"? Word repetition is a huge dislike of mine (assuming it isn't mindfull repetition or character's names. Better "Ned" twice than Ned and the dark-haired gentleman), and there I was tossing "ignore" into 5 consectutive paragraphs. Bleeh. The Panics and self-doubt had a field day.
I started playing with Redfiona's Make A List Suggestion, and while writing down the seperate issues, I realized that when I get frustrated with my writing, I tend to lump all the issues together as a big ball of Proof I Suck rather than a List of Stuff That Could Be Better. I need to work on dealing with found problems as themselves instead of accepting them as statements of failure as a whole.
