Day 01 - Your Favorite song: Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd
Yeah, yeah, yeah. All my squawking and mocking of classic rock, and then I turn around and name a Pink Floyd song as my favorite... my ways are mercurial and unknowable and stuff to you, okay.
Early college I went through a huge Pink Floyd stage. If one could get paid by the listen-through of Dark Side of the Moon, then this one would be retired and living by the sea. I still think SDotM is a good album. The Wall, not so much. Sorry everyone didn't want to be your emotional punchingbags while you acted out your manpain dramas, dude.
Learning to Fly, I guess, is considered Pink Floyd Lite by a lot of purists. IDGAF. They're not the boss of me. The lyrics were the right lyrics at the right time for me, and for that this song will always be special.
Side story! Here is a poorly re-created conversation about Learning to Fly that a shitty ex and I had:
Him: ZOMG, it's totes not the love song u think it is!
Darling me: It's not a love song. It's about a guy who scared to make the leap into love and so he's imagining lots of crash-n-burn.
Him: ZOMG. It's about a plane crash. NOT EVERY SONG HAS 2B ABOUT LUV, FOR REALS.
Darling me: It's not about a plane crash.
Him: LOOK BEYONDZ WHUT U WANT TO SEE. THIS SONG IS ABOUT DEATH!!!!
Darling me: Emotional death, of sorts. If that's the way he finally goes.
Him: DEATH!!!!
Turns out, we were both wrong. Google claims it was about Gilmore learning to "pilot" Pink Floyd after Waters left. But,yeah. So glad I have Moe now. So very, very, glad.
